The following photos were taken in July and August 2012, documenting the ever-evolving use of Wli's Computer Center and Library by its residents. Both adults and children came to use Internet-enabled computers and library books, for free.
Computers were used for typing instruction, word processing and accessing the Internet. Children came to learn to type; some took a book from the library and practiced their typing skills by copying the text of the books on a Word document. Adults came to learn to type, create documents for their personal needs, and check their personal email and Facebook accounts. They also came to borrow books.
Ghanaian volunteer, King Essel, managed the facility for three weeks. Yao's twelve year-old son, Kelvin, took charge in his absence. Ben, a gifted nine year-old fourth grader was also a great help and came every day during his school vacation in August to help others use the computers and learn to read. Even foreign visitors to Wli stopped by, on occasion, to help out as they were checking their email.
Please, imagine "One Laptop per Child". This is our imperative. Is there a way that you can help us make this happen?
